How I Turned a Scam Job Into a Comedy =D

There was a random Sunday two weeks ago, when I was spending time with my friend. After a drink I came back home, scrolling on my Facebook profile. Suddenly I saw a freelance job opportunity. I asked for more information in a comment. When I saw the profile image, my first thought was, “Oh, is this another scam job? Let’s find out.” This story is beyond unusual. =D

Light bulb detective: Scamming online job scammer.

Scam Job with a 24-Hour Rush

Yes, I was curious. Seeing a post for a freelance opportunity grabbed my attention, and I got all the information really quickly. Usually, I always check profiles with AI tools (I recommend if it happens to you) but this time, I didn’t. But I knew, I have to be careful because of previous experiences. So, my curiosity led me forward.

I followed the instructions. The conversation started on Facebook was switched to Telegram immediately. The instructions were polite, professional, and really simple: “We urgently need you. Export the file, made word corrections on 50 pages and return the corrected PDF in 24 hours. Can you do that?

It grabbed my attention because the discussion was polite, professional, and strict. Even though I still knew I had to be careful. I asked if I need some extra tools and said I could try. There weren’t strict directions for any tools, no costly recommendation-only a huge payment promise: $2.500. I can admit at this point I wasn’t sure if I saw the correct payment. “Is this a scam, charity, or mistake? 😂”

I saw before the profile picture on Telegram was different from the one on Facebook. I still wanted to know where the catch was-they didn’t send any links that could be harmful. “Ok, don’t panic, it will only take 24 hours. If something goes wrong, I will solve it.”

I Downloaded a Scam Job PDF-Is This Safe?

It’s not recommended, but I did it. I downloaded a Scam Job PDF to see what it was all about. The time was around 10 p.m. I checked the file, wondering where the catch was, knowing I would notice it soon.

The file was about international law. There wasn’t too much text on each page. This content was actually professional. I thought, “I can check a few details and see what to do about it tomorrow.”

Yes, it was late, but this file started to interest me. I automatically chose Grok for my Scam Job mission support. After, like it is known for enthusiastic people, I started working. I was wondering: “What if someone just needs help with their finals or something?” Still, the layout confused me-central alignment, different fonts and not many mistakes. I started repairing the file, noticing it wouldn’t cost me 24 hours of my precious time. By the first night at 2 a.m., I was almost halfway done.

“This is me, no matter who you are and what is behind your back. This is going to be your life price. I accepted the scam job project, and I will finish it almost perfectly.”

Yes, this is how I started the next day. Monday morning, I randomly took my dog out, had breakfast, and continued working-or finishing what I started. There was time until 9 p.m., but I wasn’t rushing. I finished the 50-page scam job file with a double check by 5 p.m. After corrections, I repaired the layout-it was kinda messy after export because I didn’t open it in Word. I made a quick free Word instalation. While waiting, I actually prepared all 50 pages’ layout in Open Docs, exported the PDF, and sent it.

During the process, there was no pressure. There was only questions about how the work was going and if I could keep them informed. Shery Bliss was kind and polite. I noticed they were in a hurry. For a while, I felt like someone just needed support with too many files. This scam job obviously wouldn’t be paid. I was wondering where this was leading and how it would continue.

I sent the file. Ms Bliss thanked me and said I had to wait for the review. She also sent me contact information for WhatsApp. She was leading me to Mrs Michelle, who was supposed to pay me for the work immediately. Same moment she kindly reminded me to stay patient and said they had a $6,500 budget for the work process.“We would like to give you another job immediately, when you get paid.”

So It wasn’t mistake, they are offering $2.500 for a one-day project-“Yeah, right-charity?😂” Ms Bliss put the payment under soft pressure, still polite. At first, I thought she would give me more scam job work and ask to pay later. This is typical even in Slovenia. But she didn’t. She wanted me to get paid.

Mrs Michelle responded a few hours later after the review of my work. With so many compliments I actually didn’t read. I was only waiting to see what would happen next and where the trigger was. Normally, she would want data for the transaction.

Instructions sounded like: “Yes, now you want to pay me. Khmm… Show me the catch.” Even if I admit it looked so good to imagine this amount of money in my account. Like you would too! 😉 Yes, I like to work; I like even more to get paid for my work. Like we all do.

Knowing this wasn’t going to happen, asking myself: “Yes, this is an obvious scam job; I shouldn’t share a thing. Half of my information is online. I’ve previously worked for a few really bad companies that had all my personal-even sensitive-data. There are so many online remote job offers, and you cannot know who you are actually working with. No matter how much you know about the person or the company. You never know what person is hiding behind their back, no matter what. So I will check where this is going to lead me, because I feel safe anyway.”

I sent the needed information, waiting for the scam part. Nobody asked me for money or anything similar, like they did on my previous experiences. It wasn’t the first scam, but it was atypical. “So, what’s gonna happen now?”

HERE IT IS!

First, I saw the video, she sent-it was really funny! Mrs Michelle told me the payment was processing! I opened the video with a black background. There the payment was listed for a few different persons and types of jobs. It looked like I could have created it in my Notes. It made me laugh.

Then she asked for a deposit fee, saying I had to pay it so they could link my account. After, I would receive $ 2,500 right after they got fee. Ms Bliss on Telegram patiently asked if I made the transaction so we could continue with the next task. My first reaction was a bit upsetting, even thought I knew it was a scam job. But I didn’t know what would happen if things get into another direction. They were kind and polite-but what could happen to me now?

Of course, I did not pay it, but for my protection, I informed my AI tool. I let both scammers know that I knew it was a scam job. I asked Ms Bliss how she could sleep at night. There was no fee that had to be paid because I checked. I wasn’t sure what would happen after the setup was resolved. That was the scary part, also because of previous experiences over the past four years.

They both stayed nice, and I reminded myself: “Do not panic. Everything is going to be alright. I was in similar-and even worse-circumstances many times before. Stay calm, it’s going to be alright. People who attack or are attached to criminal services are mostly even more scared than I am. Mostly, deep inside, really empty and sad people with lots of problems, solving them same ways. This has nothing to do with me, and I believe nothing bad will happen to me.”

The tactic of an attacker or scammer is always the same-they try to make it look like it’s your fault. After I told her I knew what was going on, Ms Bliss stayed polite. “Marina,” she said: “you just need to trust and follow the process. This isn’t a scam. Once your account is linked successfully, you’ll get your funds.”

Then the idea came too enlighten! Ms Bliss wasn’t scary after knowing I knew, same as Mrs Michelle. They only stay polite with “Hello” messages, reminding me I still had an option to pay. Oh yes, I like to have fun too! =D

How I Scammed My Scammer With Jokes

I kinda liked chatting with Ms Bliss. That’s a strange feeling to get from a scammer or a scam job. I know my senses work perfectly fine. I can smell character for miles, and I’m usually right. It’s always only a matter of time when I can do my correct check badge for my mission. =)

Both stayed in contact-not pushy, just a simple “Hi.” And it was time to have some fun. I recognized I kinda like my scammer, both of them didn’t know what else to do. So I turned it into a comedy. After three days of conversation, I created a fourth-day masterpiece comedy.

I cried. Yes, I cried laughing at the soft jokes I sent to both of them. I asked Ms Bliss if she is a famous person, apologizing if I was rude. I convinced Mrs Michelle to send me an image of her. Telling her like a secret that I never judge anyone by their look. She sent a picture of a young girl. I laughed all day. I asked if she could offer me any on-site job because I was ready to relocate.

I asked both how they were, and Mrs Michelle actually called me on WhatsApp. I only answered after checking it was safe. After being sure, I returned the call-but she was silent. Then I told her I had borrowed money, but I only had 160 euros. Explaining, I still had to borrow 20 euros, because they wanted 180 euros. She said 160 euros is enough to pay the fee. I told her I trusted her more after she sent me a picture.

I asked for transaction information. She sent me a Spanish or Latin American name with a German IBAN. I laughed even more.

I told her I would make a transaction when I got the full 180 euros, as she asked. I explained it is almost midnight in Slovenia and I was tired. Then I asked her, what time it was in their country. It was around 5 p.m.

US time? Maybe-but who knows after multiple country-mix information. Doesn’t matter-I turned my scammer into scamming them and started to have fun. I made jokes for three days, but after five days of conversation it was time to say goodbye. I did it with style. And I sent the fee of 180 euros.

I sent the fee-on my way. After Ms Bliss asked me what this was, I explained: “The fee payment process with a postcard. Two in one for both of you, being so kind. It was nice to meet you and chat with you, but now I have to go. Bye.”

And we actually don’t chat anymore. It was the funniest scam job ever, and I actually enjoyed it. Sadly, after five days, I decided I had to let my scammer go.

What to do, Seriously, if you got into a Scam Job

Think first, react after. I’m explaining my thoughts during the process, but maybe you will encounter a totally different scam job opportunity. In my case, Ms Bliss initially asked for my name, age, country, gender, email, and age again. I didn’t even try to fake the information-I have it on my social media and website.

Later, she even asked for my picture. Mrs Michelle asked for phone number, email, address, selfie, IBAN and SWIFT for payment. Most of this information are already public, I only blocked my credit card. Nothing serious happened.

Safer restrictions:

  • Check profiles with AI tools.
  • Send screenshots, and avoid sharing sensitive information.
  • Avoid conversation if something feels suspicious, block the scammer, and tell someone you trust.
  • Report the profile on social media, and to your local police.
  • Report it to INTERPOL for international support or Europol, which operates across EU countries.
  • You can also use international consumer scam reporting platforms such as Report Fraud. Another option is the Global Anti-Scam Alliance gasa.org or the UK reporting center Action Fraud. Choose the most appropriate option based on the location where you suspect the scammer may be operating.

I’ve had a few cases before and noticed plenty of fake job offers on different profiles. There are many different scammers-don’t waste your time if you don’t enjoy it or aren’t having fun.

Still, I am suspicious. Lately there seem to be almost too many fake profiles, remote jobs, and people online. I feel like I’m getting spammed from almost everywhere. If we are protected with VPNs and AI tools, work should be safe. Government institutions from our country are investing in our well-being. And the EU on the other hand is doing the same. How can this still happen on such a massive scale? How can we have so many layers of protection and still see the opposite effect?

Police or cybersecurity specialists can sometimes identify the source of a scam within a few hours. Yet I was chatting with them for five days as if nothing was happening. Both of my scammers seemed completely relaxed about it - almost like they knew nothing would happen anyway.

Still, thank you scammer! Even though I’m still curious about who was behind this scam job, at least I won-with a lot of fun. Stay safe! 😅
